My name is Yahya Aziz, and I’m from Lahore. My father, Omar Aziz, has been working with ibex. for the past 14 years. He’s a diehard fan of traveling, hiking, camping, and all sorts of adventures one can imagine. I travel with my father whenever I get an opportunity, but last year, I asked my father to take me along for the mighty K2 basecamp trek, and luckily, he agreed. *Victory* It was a 20-day trek covering Concordia, K2 Basecamp, and GondoGoro La Circuit. The physical preparations and collection of all necessary equipment gave me a different kind of excitement. After reaching Skardu by air, we took a jeep from Skardu, which traversed through the scenic beauty of Shigar valley and finally dropped us at the first campsite, Jhola. The name was as unique and exciting as my feelings. *Chuckles* It was a 7-day trek to Concordia covering the mighty Baltoro glacier, which is spread over 70 Kms (the world's 5th largest Glacier outside the polar region), providing some breathtaking views of skyscrapers, world-famous Trango Towers, Muztagh Tower, water streams over the glacial snow, crevasses and much more. Baltoro glacier finally soaked into Godwin-Austin glacier at Concordia (4,691) at the feet of 4 of the 14 highest peaks in the world (K2, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Broad Peak). From Concordia, our team mustered up the courage, went ahead, and crossed the Gondogora La pass (5,585m), and I became the youngest in the world to cross the pass at 5,585 meters. *Woot Woot* This news right there encouraged me so much that descending from Gondogoro La seemed easier. We traversed through Saicho and finally ended our on-foot journey at Hushey valley, giving us a beautiful view of the Masherbrum. Finally, our 128Km long trek came to an end, and we reached civilization after 17 days. K2 Basecamp, Concordia, and Gondogoro La Treks offered my eyes an opportunity to gaze at four 8,000er peaks. The cameras captured some of the wildest, and most dramatic landscapes on Earth in the vast, rugged Karakoram mountain range. Remote and spectacular, the icy peaks and vast Glaciers of the Karakoram offered unparalleled opportunities for adventurous trekking. The ~70km long Baltoro Glacier is Pakistan’s number one trekking destination. I had the opportunity to spend three days in the upper reaches of the Baltoro Glacier to savor the majesty of mighty K2. The highest point reached on this trek was the summit of the Gondogoro La. It was not only challenging but also technical, as I had never experienced climbing at night and that too at -22 degrees temperature. Finally, we got linked with the green Hushe Valley. The view from the summit is one of the most overwhelming mountain panoramas in the world, with four of the Karakoram 8,000m peaks close at hand. I felt a “sense of achievement” as I stood at Concordia, on top of the Gondogoro LA summit, holding the Pakistan flag, as well as the flag of ibex. It was a feeling which could never be expressed in words. In August 2021, I was honored with the “Pride of Performance” award by the Government of Pakistan and became the brand ambassador of ibex. I would definitely summit more mountains without compromising my studies in the future.
